英语中双重否定句是一种非常特殊的 句型，能够起到一般否定句和肯定句所不具备的表达功能。双重否定句通常只被理解为是肯定语气，而忽略了另外两个功能，即强调否定和委婉否定。
否定句是语法上的分类，否定主要体现在否定词（Negative Word）或含有否定意义词语的使用上，表达说话者对所说内容的否定态度。而双重否定（Double Negation）则是指一句话里有两个否定词或否定意义的词语，但这两个否定词之间不是并列的关系，相反地，而是相互抵消、相互加强或相互减弱的关系。依据上述三种关系，双重否定句还可以进一步细分为肯定型双重否定句（Affirmative Double Negative Sentence）、强调型双重否定句（Emphatic Double Negative Sentence）和委婉型双重否定句（Euphemistic Double Negative Sentence）。可见双重否定的三种功能——肯定、强调和委婉。

Because of this ambiguity, double negatives are frequently employed when making back-handed compliments. Instead, some kind of problem is implied, though Mr. Jones possesses basic competence at his tasks.

大宗师，我不是说It isn't impossible!语法有问题，而是说和语境不符。

个人觉得在宗师里面的对话，那个第一DH应该说：
It's  impossible!（翻译：这特么不科学呀！）

而非It isn't impossible!（翻译：牛逼闪闪，妥妥的！）
